On the Volume of Fluid Simulation Details and Droplet Size Distribution inside Rotating Packed Beds

In this research, the volume of fluid (VOF) method is used to study hydrodynamics rotating packed beds (RPBs). The model validated, and grid independence analyses are performed for cases with different operating conditions. droplet size distribution investigated characterize RPBs. Droplet distributions compared in two-dimensional three-dimensional simulations, it demonstrated that simulations can provide an accurate prediction while significantly reducing significant computational cost. Radial diameter packing region studied, trends observed at rotational speeds (fluctuating ω = 250 rpm, increasing–constant 500 decreasing higher speeds). These explained using breakup coalescence droplets during droplet–packing droplet–droplet collisions. Breakup, coalescence, deposition regimes depend on Weber, Ohnesorge, impact parameters. We increasing speed, average its standard deviation decreased, changing liquid flow rate did not affect diameter. It also there a critical speed (depending bed configuration), beyond which does decrease speed.
